Jesus — I Timothy 2:5-6, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human, 6 who gave Himself — a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time.” HCSB
When we celebrate Christmas it is always good to remember we celebrate the birth of Jesus the Christ.
We celebrate because Jesus is the mediator between God and humanity. The word “mediator” comes from the Greek word “me sit es” which means— the official go-between, the one both sides can trust, the one who guarantees.
Jesus who is fully God and fully human gave Himself as a ransom to pay the price for all the sins of humanity. The word “ransom” in v.6 comes from the Greek word “anti ly tron” which means— the payment, to free those in prison, to break the fetters/ chains, to destroy or break down the barriers.
God accepted the death of Jesus as payment for the sins of humanity! The death of Jesus paid the “ransom” for all. He is now “The Mediator” One both sides can trust,” “The One who guarantees!”
Jesus gave Himself as a ransom and because God accepted Jesus as the ransom for our sins— we have been made free, the chains of sin have been broke, the barrier between God and humanity has been destroyed.
There is only one way to eternal life with God in heaven and that is by the grace of God through faith in what Jesus did on the cross!
